Home Exchange trip to Dublin

The house swap with a family from Dublin was a great success.

It was only arranged about 2 weeks ago, but it was a great opportunity for a city break over Easter.

Here are a FEW of my photos, sharing some of the highlights from our trip

1. The Georgian architecture, especially the doors, but also the rows and rows of streets and street lighting, and not forgetting the railings!

2. Buskers on Grafton Street

3. Dublin Zoo (second oldest zoo in the world, after London Zoo)

I also loved this sign at the zoo, which I altered slightly for our family!

4.ย  O’Connell Street

5. Halfpenny Bridge over the Liffey

6. Bewleys Cafe

7.ย  Molly Malone (aka “The Tart with the Cart”!)

8. Unfortunately no photography allowed of the Book of Kells or the 18th century amazing Library in Trinity College, but this modern sculptre and how it reflected the historic surroundings of Trinity caught my eye:

9. Dublin has a great cosmopolitan and laid-back atmosphere, then even the road-sweepers casually sauntered down the street, in no particular hurry!

I particularly enjoyed the Temple Bar area, and a relocated bead shop where I spend over an hour and a half in! (and lots of money!!!)

10. Finally we stayed in a converted traditional cottage with a very modern extension. Very different from anywhere we have ever stayed before. While I won’t be sharing any photos from inside, this is the view down the lane from the cottage. Do you see how narrow it is? We JUST about made it down, with the wing-mirrors folded in, with only an inch or two to spare! Not sure my nerves could cope with dealing with this on a regular basis.

So, have you ever been to Dublin?

Which of my photos do you like? (if any!)

  2. I really love all your photos – such a unique opportunity to peek into a culture so far removed from mine. Beautiful art and architecture! I really loved the zoo sign and I’ll admit, I immediately thought of altering the sign too! I would cross out “our animals” and put “your sister/brother.”
