A Roman Holiday – Part 2

Welcome to my 4 night holiday in Rome!

Thanks to my lovely parents, my husband and I were able to book a 20th wedding anniversary trip to Rome, without the kids.

We flew with Aer Lingus direct from Dublin to Rome, and were glad we had booked a private transfer to the hotel. It was worth it for the air conditioning, chilled bottle of water, and being taken right to the door of our hotel with no stress or hassle.

It was getting dark as we arrived, but this was right outside the hotel.

I chose the hotel, Albergo del Senato, from Trip Advisor (big fan of Trip Advisor!) and it well deserves it’s spot as Number 3 of the thousands of hotels in Rome. Small, friendly, and amazing location.

And this was our room – with balcony and view.

We were in room 605 – small but perfect, and it was lovely to open the shutters and hear the sounds of the square below. Some streets and squares in Rome are very busy with traffic, but the square we overlooked only had the occasional taxi, or delivery van, and was primarily pedestrian.

It is hard to convey how huge and impressive the Pantheon is – and it’s been there for almost 2000 years!

I have marked our hotel room in this photo:

As mentioned in Part 1 of our Roman adventure, on our first evening we headed out for some pasta and Prosecco, then a short stroll to the Trevi Fountain.

The next morning we woke early and the view was just as stunning.

We headed out for a walk BEFORE breakfast – a bit onheard of for us, but as the hotel was so central, it was easy to do.  I love wandering around a city as it is just waking up.

We walked a few streets over to the Piazza Navona, and it was beautiful and desserted – the only time we saw it so empty!

A couple of streets south and we were at Campo dei Fiori- a daily food market. Not many tourists about and of course lots of photos taken.

This stall holder was more than happy to pose with her wee dog.

More of our Rome holiday coming soon – next it will be Ancient Rome, including the Colesseum.

Today we plan to see the Olympic Flame in Ballycastle, and it is also the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend, so lots happening.

What are you up to today?

  1. How lovely to “travel” along with you, and thanks so much for these beautiful glimpses of Italy.  My Mr is of Italian heritage and so that’s on our “to do” list as well.  We will def keep your posts in mind when we do … well IF we do, but I’m going to say WHEN.  There’s always hope.

I spent the day putting our house back in order now my in-laws headed home after a wonderful 3 week visit with us.  We give them the complete upper floor when they are here and I’ll tell you we SOOOO appreciate our upper floor when they depart.  Haha, feels like we are in a ritzy hotel.

I look forward to being more regular to visit comment and enjoy.

    Blessings,
